The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Pro may very well be the rebranded variant of the Redmi 2 Prime which is currently being sold in India with a bumped up RAM. The FCC documents reveals the specifications of the Redmi 2 Pro which includes the 4.7-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 410 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of Internal memory and a 2200 mAh battery. The phone will be compatible with GSM bands 850 and 1900 along with 2,4 and 7 which hints at the fact that the Redmi 2 Pro will be compatible with major US carriers.

Xiaomi has been disrupting the market with their well-priced smartphones offering class leading features. The way Xiaomi has built its brand especially in the emerging market is commendable, not to mention the MIUI overlay which has found its favorite with users owing to increased level of customization. However, in China the things took a different turn as according to recent Canalys report, Xiaomi was dethroned by Huawei which has been lately focussing on its Honor brand. Xiaomi has been eyeing the US market from quite some time and recently they started selling their accessories for the US market. If some sources were to be believed, Xiaomi was deliberating entering the US maket fearing patent issues. As a matter of fact, Xiaomi had also been preparing a patent ‘War Chest’ just in case. Customers in US can conveniently move away from locked contracts and instead buy the Xiaomi devices outright without parting with a fortune. It would be interesting to see how the company will envisage its sales channel in the States – will it just stick to the online presence or will try to do it Apple way by opening up exclusive stores? Also, why would they go with such a low end smartphone like Redmi 2 Pro and not high end models like Mi Note Pro? We just have to wait for the answers.
