“We’re gonna turn this industry upside down. Amazing 48 MP is coming.” Manu Jain tweeted, in a tweet that was – rather appropriately – upside down too. Although Xiaomi had announced the Redmi Note 7 in China a few weeks ago, raising eyebrows by offering a 48 megapixel sensor on a device that is super affordable (999 Yuan or Rs 11,000), there had been some concern that the Chinese brand would not bring it to India in the near future, as it had very recently released the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India. There was even speculation in some quarters that the phone would be released in India under another name – and some even went to the extent of saying it would be released as the A3, the third in Xiaomi’s Android One A series of devices. Those speculations can now be laid to rest – the Redmi Note 7 is indeed coming to India, and by some coincidence, the announcement of its arrival comes just a few days before the launch of another 48 megapixel camera phone in India, the Honor View 20, although that device is expected to be significantly more expensive. The Redmi Note 7 would also be the first device to be launched in India ever since Redmi was made a separate sub-brand under Xiaomi.

Our sources tell us that it is very unlikely that both will be brought, as the lower price variant would not only affect the prospects of the Pro avatar as the main selling point of 48 megapixel cameras would be the same on both devices, but would also end up being priced too close to the high end Redmi Note 6 Pro. Of course, we have no idea whatsoever of the prices of the Redmi Note 7 or 7 Pro in India, but the Note 7 starts at 999 Yuan in China, which is roughly in the range of Rs 10,500. The Pro variant which has not yet been made official is expected to be launched soon as well and will be more expensive at around 1399 Yuan, which is close to Rs 14,700. Our sources say that the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the version of the Note more likely to make its way to Indian shores and the price is speculated to be in the vicinity of Rs 14,999, although some insist it could start at a 6 GB RAM variant at Rs 17,999, with a less expensive avatar being brought in later, enabling it to steer clear of competing with the Redmi Note 6 Pro. There are, however, some who insist that the company will launch the Redmi Note 7 in India at a surprisingly low price (Rs 12,999 perhaps), and launch the 7 Pro in the form of a stock Android laden A3 in June or July. We have no dates, but everything and everyone we know is pointing towards an early February launch. That would rain on a few parades, most notably those of the megapixel one of Honor, and the millennial one of Samsung. Not that it would bother Redmi.
