Back in February this year, IQOO launched the IQOO 3 in India which not only came with the top of the line specs but with a very affordable price tag (and one which has got even more affordable with some price cuts since). Sounds familiar? Well, many brands have been using this exact same strategy to make their mark in the smartphone industry, and OnePlus is one of the pioneers that actually started this trend....

JioInteract is expected to shape up as an innovative and intuitive way for brands to engage with Jio’s subscriber base which is in access to 150 million smartphone users. This can be used by movie makers and other brands to promote themselves. In the upcoming updates, Jio will also launch other services like the video call centers, video catalog, and virtual showrooms for the best customer experience. As of now, the JioInteract will allow users to make “Live Video Call” to their favorite celebrity Amitabh Bachchan starting from 4th May....

The Lenovo Smart Band HW01 looks like every other smart band with a silicon strap and sports a 0.91-inch OLED panel. The display is capable of showing various alerts including steps, calories, notifications, distance, and more. There’s a dynamic heart rate scanner available as well that can track your vitals every 15 minutes. Furthermore, the band will even notify you when your heart rate reaches a designated threshold or wake you up through the anti-sleep mode that Lenovo says “alerts you of concentration loss or dozing while driving or working at night”....

There is a subtle change though. Unlike in the case of the Vibe X, where the hardware played a distinct second fiddle to design, in the Vibe X2, Lenovo went out of its way to prove that the device was not a “dumb blonde” (as one Lenovo executive put it), and put its hardware on par with the design. Yes, the Z2 Pro was still the Zen Master when it came to the geeks, but if Lenovo was to believed, the Vibe X2 could hold its own in the spec stakes, and still turn heads with its looks....

Instead of going with the relatively unknown ZUK branding, Lenovo decided to launch their top of the line smartphone in India under their own badge. It’s a smart marketing move by the company indeed. Despite that, the Lenovo Z2 Plus will face stiff competition in India from two of its other Chinese counterparts in India namely the OnePlus 3 and the Xiaomi Mi5. Both the smartphones have tasted a fair amount of success worldwide including in India, with some even referring to the OnePlus 3 as ‘The Best Android Smartphone of 2016’....

The Jelly comes with an ultra-small 2.4-inch display with a resolution of 240 x 432px. As you can already imagine, the smartphone would appear rather puny when placed side by side with the Samsung Galaxy S8+. It will surely remind users of those feature phones days where phones came with such small panels. Needless to say that the Jelly would be the smallest 4G enabled smartphone when launched commercially in the coming few months....

We had featured the Bamboo Notepad which was a pressure sensitive notepad with a companion pen, the Bamboo Spark transferred the notes to the cloud. This notepad too came with a few drawbacks including the need to charge and the need to replace the pen, which can be an expensive affair. Rocketbook Wave is a much more simplified yet effective cloud connected Notebook. The most interesting part of the Rocketbook Wave is its simplicity, the notebook comes with a glossy surface and at the bottom it has some symbols stacked up....

In theory, this should result in a performance boost of upwards of 30% as the new chip has six cores compared to 4 on the previous one. The notebook has a standard 15.6-inch FHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a screen to body ratio of 81%. The IPS panel can accomplish a max brightness of 300 nits and is flanked by a 1MP web camera on the top with a 720p resolution....

And did not mention China or the Chinese even once in a very brief launch. One that barely spanned half an hour. In fact, at the very outset, Rahul Sharma, one of the founders (and for many the face) of Micromax, said: “Product ka jawaab sirf product se hi diya jaa sakta hai…” (“Only a product can counter a product…”) Cheeni? Cheeni kum? Heck, NO Cheeni at all! It was a surprisingly low-key presentation from a brand that has never fought shy of engaging with its competitors – heck, it even poked fun at the mighty iPhone....

At its world partner conference event, company’s COO Kevin Turner revealed HP’s new lineup – “Stream” – that costs just $199. And wait, that’s not all. There are $249 laptop from other OEMs like Acer and Toshiba as well. The Stream lineup also have 7- and 8-inch Windows running PCs that cost just $99. While Acer’s laptop sports a 15.6-inch screen, people looking for small-sized laptops can go with Toshiba’s 11....

Hello, Moto design! 2017 seems to have been a very good year for Motorola in terms of design. The company came out with a very smart and distinct Moto G series, hit a home run with the beautifully crafted Moto X4, and hits the middle ground of these two with the Moto Z2 Force. Seen in isolation, the phone is very sleek and thanks to the round camera unit which sticks out at the back, typically Motorola – that spherical camera is becoming an integral part of the Motorola design language, making all its phones stand out in a very crowded marketplace....

The NearGroup app lets one interact with your verified neighbours and together build a community. All of this can be done anonymously and you can reveal your identity only once comfortable to do so. Once you have installed the app it will ask for your locality and it is only after you select the locality the stuff get displayed. The features in the app include Panic button, which will warn the neighbours if you are in trouble, more like an SOS feature with a local touch....

Starting with one of the highlights of the device, the Nokia 6.1 Plus both looks and feels GREAT to hold in the hand. It’s very important to understand this so let’s spend some extra time on the design. The glass back gives it a premium look, while the metallic sides give an assuring feel while using the device. As expected, Nokia has brought the dual-SIM version of the Nokia X to India. At Rs.8599 ($140), that’s pretty competitively priced. If you still don’t know, Nokia X isn’t your typical Android phone. Nokia has taken the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) version of Android and has stripped out all Google services & Google APIs, and replaced them with Nokia APIs & Microsoft services. You won’t have access to the Google Play Store, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps etc....

The Nokia X71 features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2316 × 1080 pixels and 2.5D curved glass, bringing in a 19.3:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it is powered by a 14nm based Octa-Core Snapdragon 660 with Adreno 512 GPU, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256GB using a microSD). In terms of other hardware add-ons, the device comes with USB Type-C, Bluetooth 5, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Dual 4G VoLTE, and Hybrid Dual SIM....

Now, traditionally you would think that the more expensive of the two comes from Apple and the more affordable one from OnePlus. After all, OnePlus has been known to bundle top of the line specs with surprisingly affordable price tags whereas Apple, on the other hand, has been accused of being ridiculously overpriced more than once. These two companies, for a major part of their lives, have played these roles where one introduced flagship killers and the other introduced, well, flagships....

Well, sort of… Looks a little more mainstream That is because while the OnePlus 8T is an upgrade of the OnePlus 8 that was launched earlier in 2020, it is perhaps the first T series device from OnePlus that features the same processor as its predecessor. Whereas T devices in the past always had the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship chip, the OnePlus 8T sticks to the Snapdragon 865 we saw on the OnePlus 8, and does not go for the 865+ that some more recent flagships have used....
